Cost of Renewable vs Fossil Energy.

"Solar Energy is too expensive, isn't burning coal cheaper for the consumer?"

This is a common misconception, and promoted heavily over the past decade by PR firms and hired ‘experts’ in the Oil & Gas Industry.

While true more than 5 years ago, due to the rapidly declining cost of wind turbines and solar photovoltaic modules, and because these renewable energy technologies produce power with ZERO ongoing fuel costs, as of 2016, the cost per kWh of electricity produced by renewables is LOWER than that of any fossil fuel energy source, including coal, fuel oil and natural gas.

The savings are even higher when all of the other intangible costs of burning fossil fuels are taken into account, for example, the health care costs as a result of the much higher rates of heart disease, strokes, lung cancer and emphysema in urban areas due to the products of combustion of burning fossil fuels.
