Diesel fuel combustion is extremely hazardous. In fact, there are at least 33 chemical compounds found in diesel exhaust which are toxic to humans and all other animal life.
Of these, at least 20 of them are known carcinogens, including:
- Arsenic
- Benzene
- Formaldehyde
- Lead
- Naphthalene
- Toluene
What is even more insidious, is the very fine sub 2.5 micron (PM2.5) particles in diesel & petrol exhaust contain a hazardous blend of these ultra-toxins, and when breathed in embed themselves deep into our lung tissue.
Because of their very small size, these are very hard to remove by the lungs’ natural defenses, so can stay resident for days, weeks or months triggering cell inflammation, irritation and cancer cell growth.
This is a leading cause of death worldwide, and a very miserable and painful way to go.
Surely we can phase out these pollutants faster?
