Indoor Air Quality

"It's OK, when the air gets bad, I just go inside and close my doors and windows."

It would be helpful if this were the case.

Unfortunately, the products of fossil fuel combustion, and other volatile organic compounds such as paints, solvents and pesticides, contain carcinogenic gases and tiny particles that readily pass through gaps in windows and doors, and enter our homes and places of business.

Further, in order to breathe a continuous supply of oxygen, you must eventually let in air from the outside — at which point, in come the pollutants.

In any case, even if you could close yourself into a ‘sealed’ building, many of the chemical compounds released from carpeting, indoor wall paints, plastic objects, and so on create a hazardous environment for humans and animals.
