Yes, compared to a STOP sign, there are likely a few more fender benders at roundabouts throughout the world.
However, these accidents are not fatal, and often do not even result in minor injuries.
By contrast, once stopped, the energy necessary to re-accelerate a 1200 kg (2650 lb) vehicle is enormous.
This energy is produced by burning fossil fuels — at a rather dismal efficiency of less than 2% (see topic in Electric Vehicles) — and that is certainly hazardous and life threatening to all of us.
Let’s be really safe and protect our kids’ futures by replacing the ubiquitous 4-way and 3-way stop sign intersections with roundabouts and save Billions of lbs / kgs of unnecessary pollution every year.
And, as an added benefit, you save time (no waiting at stop light, stop sign), and lower the wear and tear costs / repair time on your brakes, and drive train components.
