Wasteful Packaging

"We don't want our products damaged during shipping ... so using one or more layers of plastic and/or cardboard -- and even a second or third layer of plastic bubble wrap -- is essential to our customers."

Yes, this might be true for certain shipped goods like expensive electronics or fragile glassware. However, how many of us have ordered rugged items like canned food or tennis shoes, only to have them show up in an overly large box, or even double boxed with extra ‘peanuts’, bubble wrap or bunched paper?

Admittedly, ordering products from online retailers is an appealing option, but retailers could just take a little more time and effort to reduce this waste, and pass on that extra $0.75 of cost to the consumer.

It’s worth it in the long run with less waste and lower energy costs and waste pollution when shipping a lighter and/or smaller container.
